Blog Entry 4: Advanced Spreadsheet Skills

In this lesson, I learned to familiarize with the most commonly used functions in Microsoft Excel. I also learned to used several conditional functions available in Microsoft Excel and use it as a viable tool in market research and product development. But first what is Microsoft Excel? It is a widely used spreadsheet program. A spreadsheet program is a software for entering, editing, manipulating and printing information in a tabulated form. It is a program mainly used for handling numbers.

By this topic, we had a class on the computer laboratory to be able to explain the discussion, so that the students can also try the Microsoft excel. They also taught us the parts of the Excel which are the name box, formula box, column headings, row headings, select all button, tab scrolling button, tab split tabs, sheet tabs, and active cell. Furthermore, formatting cells, creating a series, editing data, Inserting and deleting rows and columns, and using formulas and functions are been discussed.  In using formulas and functions we can use the rule of precedence for the formula using P.E.M.D.A.S. or Parentheses are computed first, then Exponential then Multiplication and Division, and then Addition and Subtraction. Lastly, there are several formulas to compute the value in specific range and these are =Sum(range), =Average(range), =Count(range), =Max(range), =Min(range), =COUNTIF (range, criteria), =SUMIF (range, criteria), and =AVERAGEIF (range, criteria).
