Blog Entry 1: Intro to Information and Communication Technology
Hello, second semester! Another subjects, topics, lessons, and learning are coming. In our class in Empowerment Technology, we begin in brainstorming what is Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is. We also divide into a group to draw a poster about our ideas what is ICT and expectation in Empowerment Technology. But what is ICT really means? ICT or Information and Communication Technology deals with the use of different communication technology such as mobile phones, telephone, and the internet to locate, save, send, and edit information. Little did we know there are 3 kinds of web pages in ICT which is Web 1.0, Web 2.0, and Web 3.0. Web 1.0 is a static page or known as a flat page because the page it cannot be manipulated by the user. On the other hand, Web 2.0 is a dynamic web page where the user can able to browse and interact with the page such as commenting that allow them to see a website differently than others like social networking sites.
In Web 2.0 it has a lot of features that we see on the website we visit nowadays such as the hashtags (#) that we usually see on Twitter. Folksonomy or known as hashtag makes netizens easily find and categorize information they're looking for. The content of the web is dynamic and responsive to the user's input. It offers the services that are on demand rather than on a one-time purchase and it also allows other users to place the content of their own by means of comment, reviews, and evaluation. While in Web 3.0 it aims to have machines or servers understand the user’s preferences to be able to deliver web content specifically targeting the user. Also in Semantic Web, it led to a movement of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), by that I found out what www stands for. The Semantic Web provides a common framework that allows data to be shared and reused across application, enterprise, and community boundaries. However, Web 3.0 has several problems like in the Compatibility, Security, Vastness, Vagueness, and Logic.
As modern technologies highly demand in this generation, trends in ICT is increasing. Convergence, Assistive media, Mobile Technologies, and Social media are trending in ICT. Convergence is the synergy of technological advancements to work on a similar goal or task. Assistive media is one of the trends in ICT, it is a nonprofit service designed to help people who have visual and reading impairments. The popularity of mobile technologies like smartphones and tablets have taken a major rise over the years and it has 7 kinds of Operating Systems; the IOS, Android, Blackberry OS, Windows Phone OS, Symbian, WebOS, and Windows Mobile. Lastly, the Social Media that is the most trend and it is a website, application, or online channels that enable web users to create, co-create, discuss, modify, and exchange user-generated content. There are 6 types of Social Media, the Social Networks, Bookmarking Sites, Social News, Media Sharing, Blogs and Forums.
